If you want to be more responsible and safe then the Wilderness Survival Level-A course is for you. It is NOT a primitive methods survival course. However, you will learn how to pre-plan effectively, and how to survive using the gear you have in your pack and on your person.
Topics covered include:
*Proper trip planning & coordination.
*Maintaining the correct mindset for survival
*Basic wilderness first aid
*Non-primitive methods of fire building
*Non-primitive water filtration
*Basic rope & knot skills
*Basic land navigation tactics
*Signaling for rescue
Upon completion of the Wilderness Survival Level-A course, you qualify for the Level-B course (March 11th weekend) in Hill Country. More primitive and SERE level skills will be covered there. You must walk before your run.
Of course, students will need basic camping gear. Tents, sleeping bags, compass, knife, pot to boil water, etc.
***NOTE*** The google maps link below is totally innacurate as far as the location is concerned. It is in Sam Houston National Forest, but the pin drop is way off. We will let everyone know exactly where we will meet the week of.
