Skills, Planning, Ethos, Action, Reason. These are the five principles that form the foundation of the SPEAR Survival philosophy.
SKILLS take time to develop. We ALL started somewhere. Without the proper skills in your tool box, survival becomes a LOT more difficult, if possible. Some may spend decades learning things on their own, some may seek out the wisdom and knowledge of others. We prefer to combine both. Come, learn from us, but get out there and take what we teach you and adapt it to best suit you.
PLANNING is where you start, beginning with just the idea that you WANT to, and CAN indeed survive. From there, we just figure out ways to increase your odds of survival. Remember, “if you fail to plan, you can plan to fail”. Don’t wander into a situation with no plan, and no backup plan. Learn to formulate different paths to the same goal.
ETHOS. Let’s define the word. Oxford dictionary defines it as: ” (N) The characteristic spirit of a culture, era, or community as manifested in its beliefs and aspirations”. SPEAR Survival is a culture, and that culture does indeed have a “characteristic spirit”, the warrior ethos. The “never give up, never quit” attitude that defines survivors. All it takes is all you got.
ACTION. It’s so simple, it’s primal. One MUST act to survive. It is the physical manifestation of the components of the SPEAR Survival concept. Without action, nothing happens.
REASON. “R” could stand for “readiness’, but truthfully speaking, if you learned the skills, plan, take action, and exercise the warrior ethos, you have already exercised “readiness”. Your actions just need to be tempered, and guided by thoughtful reason, knowledge and experience to cut the risk that is associated to any and every single action we take.
This is it. Welcome to SPEAR.
